Par for the course: A Vibrant Golf Outing

Welcome back folks!

This month had fun adventures enjoyed by all. The brand turned one, I photographed a local jazz concert, and one of my most unique experiences to date: I photographed a golf tournament!

Those that know me know that this theatre kid knows little about sports unless it’s football, thanks big bro and dad! Golf, unless in the miniature or virtual versions, has always been out of the realm of interest for me, but one of the things I set for myself as a personal goal was to try something new and keep an open mind to new opportunities. So came the imPossible Dream Foundation.

The imPossible Dream Foundation supports the Rhode Island population of varying needs and abilities. They support the special needs community through assisting in making the world more accessible. One of those projects is the imPossible Dream Playground in Warwick, Rhode Island. This playground is accessible for individuals with a range of abilities to enjoy. Recently celebrating their 35th anniversary and their annual golf tournament fundraiser, I was brought in to photograph the event.

My main duty was photos of the foursomes, but I also captured candids from the ninth hole. “On the nine and doing fine!” is what I told the golfers who checked in with me throughout the day. My assistant kept an eye out for incoming golfers, kept me company, and kept me hydrated. We met an array of characters of different ages and personalities all connected with the foundation, but they had one more thing in common. They were so warm and friendly as I approached for photos. Many golfers exchanged jokes with us and hammed it up for the camera when they saw it pointed in their direction. Everyone from the board and tournament participants were so grateful and thankful for my work and I was grateful for their welcoming energy. Getting to work with this great organization made my job less like work and more like play.
